Zoo Hoofstock Trim Program
Course for Zoo Veterinarians
The ZHTP has developed a course specifically for veterinarians that work for zoological facilities. The format for this course is 5 intense days. Because of your advanced understanding of anatomy and physiology, the first two days will cover anatomy from a biomechanics and function stand point, dissections, reading tissue, recognizing distortions and trimming. The third and fourth day will focus on common pathologies of the distal limb, and how imbalances in the hoof capsule influence and effect those pathologies. The fifth day will be learning about how different apparatuses stabilize and support the hoof capsule to aid in healing, as well as the applications of those apparatuses on cadavers. I will be asking each participant to bring at least one case study to share as we will go over case studies in the evenings.
*This course is approved for 40 CE credits through the American College of Zoological Medicine (ACZM).
